How To Keep Dry Skin Hydrated & Healthy (Face Edition)

Model moisturising her skin

The skin on your face is delicate, even more so if it suffers from being dry and dehydrated. When you have dry skin, it calls to be a little more cautious about what you are using, as not to aggravate the issue further. However, that doesn't mean your entire routine needs to be catered toward only your dry skin, especially if you have other concerns, like acne or dark spots, but finding the right balance can be tricky. With that in mind, let's look at what steps in your routine – and a handful of product recommendations – you should be paying extra attention too, so that your dry skin is no longer a concern.

Tips

  • Layer moisture

  • Stay away from drying products

  • Stay hydrated

  • Be consistent

Cleansers

It’s no secret that a lot of cleansers can you leave your face feeling quite dry and tight. The key to keeping your skin hydrated, is to make sure every product in your routine is working for you, not against you. So, to start your routine off with a bang, try a cleansing milk, an oil cleanser or a cleansing balm. The right cleanser will be both gentle and extremely hydrating, doing a brilliant job of removing any impurities, without jeopardising your skin barrier or potentially exasperating dry skin.

Toners

Layering moisture is essential when it comes to transforming your skin and toners are a great way of doing that. Not only do they provide another layer of hydration, but they help restore your PH balance after cleansing. Considering toners tend to be hydrating in nature, they are a good way to slip in ingredients for other skin concerns you may have, such as brightening or refining pores, without causing irritation to your skin.

Product Recommendations:

Serums

Serums can be the trickiest products to clamp down in a dry skin routine, as often, they will contain one or two ingredients that can be drying or irritating to the skin. However, this doesn't mean you have to undermine all your work for a little brightening or anti-aging. Instead, opt for serums infused with ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid or Glycerin, that will provide hydration alongside the other ingredients. Keep in mind, you can layer multiple serums, so using one focused on hydration and, the other focused on a different concern will work aswell. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, to get the perfect combination for your skin.

Moisturisers

This is where the magic happens, the final touch to keeping your skin hydrated and healthy through out the day. The perfect moisturiser will be both nourishing and rich, with ingredients that lock in hydration, without leaving your skin feeling greasy and oily. I’d recommend sticking with creams and balms, rather than gels here, as the former work well for dry skin. Another trick is too have atleast two different moisturisers in your rotation, so you have multiple options throughout the changing seasons.
